Respect, love and passion for nature, the vineyard and the wine.
Almatura is the combination of the Spanish words for soul (alma) and nature (naturaleza). A name that reflects the pledge to preserve and care about the environment, obtaining hence a sustainable product concerned about the medium and its biodiversity.
Furthermore, mixed cropping is used to help in the correct development of the vineyard, controlling pests and diseases, and generating a collaborative network with the surrounding landscape (farmers and ranchers).
The challenge was to create an identity that reflected the philosophy of the project as faithfully as possible. It is a wine of exclusive production, addressed to a very specific audience: connoisseurs and consumers of ecological, natural, biodynamic and ancestral wines; for those with a preference for high-quality sustainable products, free of chemicals and artificial additives.
The labels, organically imperfect, are handcrafted by recycling paper and including dry leaves of the associated crops mixed with the vineyard, as well as their seeds. The colours of the 3 labels are originated from the plants' own chlorophyll, turmeric and red wine respectively.
Embossing has been used to communicate that it is possible to leave a mark without polluting, a parallelism with the labour of restoring and farming the field in a respectful manner. Typography used is Scilla, a font designed taking nature and flowers as inspiration.
To seal the cork, instead of synthetic or coloured waxes, natural beeswax obtained from beekeepers from Tenerife has been used, thus promoting beekeeping in the Canary Islands.
In order to protect the wax, banana leaves have been used. The banana tree is the most known and most widespread crop in the Canary Islands.
The banana leaf is tied to the neck of the bottle using a natural hemp rope.
Once the wine is drank, label can be planted directly in the soil, so that its seeds germinate, propagating plant life.
