Record cover for Øyvind Holm
Record cover for the solo album of singer and songwriter Øyvind Holm, known from bands such as Dispomaniacs, Deleted Waveform Gatherings and Sugarfoot.
"Paradox of laughing" is a term that describes a reaction that does not correspond to the seriousness of an event and/or context - for example: laughter that is perceived as inappropriate for others. Or to put it in the artist's own words: "Sometimes I find it difficult to take in all that evil people are capable of doing to each other, and the paradox lies in the fact that we are nevertheless able to smile, laugh and enjoy ourselves - which is probably a good outlet for our mental health, but still often fills me with guilt.”
The concept is a cover that communicates this emotional paradox visually: Two illustrations of the artist, one sad - one happy in combination with the fact that the cover has a panel that enables different combinations of these emotions. These combinations are then taken out in various situations: in store, as a poster, and as promotional material. The color of the vinyl is taken from the palette of the illustration.
