Radio Selga Site
We are Beavers Brothers team, a full-scale digital production and design agency. We have been crafting bold design, digital products and services for more than 10 years.
We developed a website concept for the Selga-309 portable radio — a vivid example of 1980s industrial design.
This project shows our love for cultural phenomena and iconic artifacts of the past. It’s infused with nostalgia for soulful music, warm design, and cozy, slightly quirky sweaters. In this project, we experimented with AI to explore how it can help when time and budget are limited, and when the goal is to recreate an era that no longer exists.
- We created powerful 3D animations to deliver a striking presentation and reimagined what the Selga-309 could look like using modern materials.
- Designed a clean and intuitive interface.
- Used an elegant, restrained color palette.
- Introduced visual storytelling elements, including lively photo illustrations that immerse users in the 1980s lifestyle.
- Added a built-in audio player with a curated playlist to help visitors tune into the spirit of the ’80s.
The Selga-309 was developed by the manufacturing association Radiotehnika, the flagship of Latvian audio engineering in the 1980s, and was produced from 1985 to 1992. The radio featured a minimal, ergonomic design and a shock-resistant polystyrene case available in several colors.
Compared to its predecessors, the Selga-309 offered higher sensitivity and greater stability. Powered by just two AA batteries, it could operate for up to 40 hours.
The Selga-309 quickly became popular. Priced at around 30 rubles (for comparison, an engineer’s monthly salary at the time was about 120–150 rubles), it was affordable for almost anyone.
Today, the Selga-309 is a collector’s item and remains an example of simple, functional, and reliable design that has truly stood the test of time.
