Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten Amsterdam Verslag 2011

After after the dramatic cultural cuts in The Netherlands, ordered by the Dutch Ministery for Culture in 2012, the renowed Rijksakademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam arrived in very heavy economical weather and looked at an uncertain future.
For the Annual Report this starting point resulted in a newspaper that wants to show both its’ protest as well as the support that they had received from all over the international art world. Next to that, some of the precious treasures from its’ famous library are represented, like the ’Anatomical Angel’. Also activities like its’ Prix De Rome as well as resident artists are highlighted and explained: all adding extra focus on the dynamics and necessity of maintaining this special two-century old academy.

The typography used is a mix of the fonts Vendôme and Mistral by one of my favorite type designers – Roger Excoffon –  in combination with Univers. The latter is strictly placed big and ’condensed’, in order not to loose any of the precious space on the paper.
The paper used is plain, cheap and simple copy paper, mostly printed in black, with adding some colored pictures here and there, which are printed in a CMYK, but built up with neon color. The whole newspaper was then folded in a ’banderolle’.
