Vasas flora och fauna – A Rubbish Album
Vasas Flora och Fauna is a Finnish pop-group and trio of musicians. Their new album Strandgut is made up from eleven songs taken from the band’s first two albums, which were then re-recorded in German.
The band see their new songs as artefacts that made it from Finland to Germany, floating across the Baltic Sea. Referring to the album’s title Strandgut, jetsam in English, this features a series of sculptures that have been built from maritime debris found on beaches in the Baltic Sea. The sculptures – a guitarist, a piano player and a drummer – are complemented by a custom seaweed inspired typeface.
The result is a zero waste solution where maritime debris has been reused for communication purpose. But also a subtle comment to the never ending plastics that are threatening our oceans. Hopefully it will inspire someone to find new ways of reusing rubbish.
