Gallerie d’Italia - Torino

The concept of a museum on photography has been redefined at the new venue of Gallerie d’Italia in Turin. Limiteazero was in charge of media and interaction design by Black Engineering, the company which led the production and project management. Studio De Lucchi designed an hypogeal architecture, obtained from a former vault, to host photographic site specific exhibitions. A new voice to an historic photo archive, a spot on the present and a focus on the social, environmental and ethical challenges humanity is facing. Limiteazero designed and developed a series of interactive and multimedia installations and a dedicated App. At the entrance a custom digital signage system, that displays information about exhibitions and related events, welcomes the visitors. In the same room a large led-wall run a software that create mosaics of iconic photos using other photos as tiles. On the same floor a realtime three-dimensional map of the museum way-finding is projected. Descending to the second floor the visitors encounter a huge space with a 18 projectors installation, a seamless multimedia environment called “Immersive Projections”. In this installation we designed two media: one displays the most beautiful shots from the archive and the other is an emotional video conceived for the opening. In a nearby room we designed an interactive video-wall, to explore and visualize the huge photographic archive of Gallerie d’Italia; this installation collaborate with the app we designed to allow people to save images from the archive. On the main floor there is “Sala Turinetti”, a room that preserve the original 18th century. Inside we made an installation that visualize the same room through an amazing points-cloud, an animation of a three-dimensional scan of the environment.
