Kraków Culture

The quarterly Kraków Culture is where one starts discovering the city’s diversity. It’s the guidebook to a whole spectrum of possibilities the city can offer, as well as a tool for international communication. The concept of the project is to organize Kraków’s cultural diversity for both its citizens and tourists. The magazine is issued quarterly as four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. Apart from the system of sections typical for any magazine, i.e. a general overview of events, editorials, reviews, interviews, etc., the idea was to create a layout which would distinguish between the contents written in Polish and in English, and which would arrange accompanying information in a clear way. The magazine was created as a result of lack of cultural offer during the covid pandemic. The monthly Karnet, which had been issued before the pandemic, was in fact nothing more than an elaborate event calendar, and it suddenly faced a shortage of events to write about. After a break which the editorial office was forced to take, they decided that general open online access to basic information is enough and the magazine is not needed anymore. Karnet’s successor, the new quarterly, gives its readers a deeper insight into the city buzz and cultural personalities. In this aspect Kraków Culture is actually a full-colour magazine rather than just a simple event guide. As Kraków Culture continues Karnet’s inclination and need to describe a wide range of events, there was a risk that the body of two-to-four-page-long articles might cause the whole magazine to look monotonous or repetitive. Our task was to create a layout that would make the magazine’s structure more reader-friendly, vivid and visually attractive.
