Brief
We were honoured to rebrand the Association of Dutch Designers (BNO), the largest community of designers and design agencies in the Netherlands. The goal was to make the BNO, their practice and the community more visible. As part of the rebrand, qw developed the Dutch designers (Dd) platform to inspire, connect and celebrate Dutch design(ers). The yearly publications Dd Magazine and Dd Yearbook and their design are always based on a topical theme. Through these publications and the involvement of the community, BNO has become a brand for, with and made by Dutch designers.
Brief
Our studio was asked to rebrand The Association of Dutch Designers (BNO) because too many (young) designers and other relevant professionals were unfamiliar with their practices. Part of this brand refresh was rebranding their magazine - formerly called ‘Dude’ - and creating a Yearbook. The magazine was meant to inspire and spark joy, the yearbook to celebrate and honour Dutch design.
Creative solution
As part of the BNO rebrand, we developed the Dutch designers (Dd) platform to communicate from and celebrate Dutch design(ers), the name and logo inspired by the Dd type specimen. We renamed the magazine to make it part of the platform. It focusses on joy and inspiration, surrounding a yearly theme, showing processes and (business) news. The theme influences both the content and the design.
For the jury
BNO members receive the Dd Magazine and Dd Yearbook. Both are published once a year: the Magazine in June and the Yearbook in December. The publications can also be bought through the publisher (nai010), in (independent) bookstores throughout the Netherlands and museums across the country, such as Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, The New Institute in Rotterdam and Design Museum Den Bosch. ..
