Kōzōwood specializes in crafting sustainable houses from nature and sought a website that would provide an aspirational digital experience while also demystifying the adoption of wood as a central element in architectural thinking.
Our meticulously designed website integrates custom audio, field recordings, and tailor-made music, all harmonizing to amplify the narrative of individuals aspiring to embrace wooden houses nestled in nature. The demystification aspect targets architects, showcasing Kōzōwood's services and expertise in achieving best-in-class wooden building construction standards, streamlined processes, and a total commitment to sustainability. The drone and video footage were captured in Comporta, Portugal, where Kōzōwood is set to build hundreds of wood houses over the next few years.
The design aims for elegance and sophistication, complemented by a Zen-like experience on scroll, guided by the gentle notes of a marimba—a wooden instrument—along with nature and factory field recordings. These elements are intended to unwind daily stress and pressure while motivating users to explore further across the sections.
Each header showcases elements of constructed wood houses, with typographic elements intertwined with nature illustrations and carefully curated animations under WebGL. For instance, the world map infographic over wood construction data on “Sustainability” page and the concrete vs. CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) comparison on "Why Wood" serves to raise awareness about the benefits of wood construction beyond its inherent charm, which humans already crave for their homes.
All technical information is compiled within the Journal, catering to the more technically inclined audience who prefer to delve into details before making decisions.
It's a genuine digital experience for those seeking nature on a screen. Like any experience, it requires time for proper immersion, so don't let the stress of the day affect your pace and check all the sections in full.
