Salmantina

https://typerepublic.com/fonts/salmantina/

Salmantina is a typeface based on the study of ancient signs painted on the walls of the University of Salamanca since the 16th century. Various letter models have been applied in creating this ancient “graffiti”, which can still be observed on the walls of the historic centre of Salamanca.

The cheers —vítores—and the texts accompanying this symbology have commemorated and celebrated the passage of personalities but also reflect the power struggles fought within the University throughout its history.

Through research on the different letter models found and the study of the historical context in which they were drawn and painted, a typeface has been created to recover these letterings from a contemporary perspective for use in type compositions.

The main goal of this typeface (besides its commercial purposes) is to celebrate the spirit of the University City of Salamanca from a contemporary perspective, with delicacy and elegance.
