Paddy Hartley at the Pharmacy Museum of the University of Basel
On the occasion of Roche 125-year jubilee, British ceramist Paddy Hartley was invited to create an artistic intervention in the Pharmacy Museum of the University of Basel. The book documents intervention pieces and provides a tour through the museum, room by room. Edition is constructed according to the topology of the exhibition. To bring a look and feel of the environment and particular spots of the museum, signatures of coloured uncoated paper were used matching the colours present in museum space or its exterior. The ivory stucco-coated textured paper used for the photos allowed to achieve colour accuracy, depth and pronounced haptic quality. To reproduce all the refined details and smooth colour gradients the images were printed in stochastic raster. Playful setting of the intervention and art pieces intentionally hidden by the artist in unobvious locations inspired the design of the publication. Some of the ceramic figures are hidden in the book under the gatefolds and sewed-in vertical folds, creating a unique immersive experience for the reader. The book is bound into bonded leather made in a sustainable manner using the waste and off-cuts of leather production.
