HD Microbic
HD Microbic is an aseptic interpretation of the classic Scotch Roman genre focused on texture. With a scientific heritage, the styles match as colonies of different species from the same genus coexisting in a Petri dish. The styles have been produced with a minimalistic approach to be clean, neutral, classy but not cheesy, sweet with smooth curves, but a bit raw with a straightforward character.
HD Microbic family comes with 4 styles (Roman, Condensed, Italic, and Mono) with 800+ glyphs per style and a Latin Extended coverage. Has been equipped with 10 stylistic sets and hidden alternates, 60 ligatures, an extensive set of numerals, and a playful set of icons and arrows. The Italic strain is a wild hybrid between an italic and a 14º slanted, and the Monospaced includes an extra stylistic set with a Semi-Mono feature.
The original concept lies in the type designer's scientific background as a biologist. For her first release when founding her studio-foundry, Laura wanted to pay homage to that culture and meticulousness from the lab work to each glyph, turning an apparently classic family into a clean, useful and playful tool for designers like her. The family is mainly conceived for display purposes (branding, packaging, editorial...), where the strong serifs and the special features as ligatures can show off and reign in a simple composition.
