Kolumbus

Background
Kolumbus is a Norwegian mobility provider on a mission to help people travel without the need for a personal vehicle. They seamlessly blend various transportation modes, guided by the principle of delivering personalized, up-to-date information for their customers.
Kolumbus needed a visual tool to help both employees and presenters explain the complexity of their role, which involves handling both bus and boat traffic and making sure that trains, bikes, walking, and car-sharing all come together smoothly for a complete mobility experience.

Solution
To address some of these communication challenges, we introduced a flexible illustration system, tailored for presentations, films, and animations. Our approach was stylized yet realistic, ensuring vehicles like buses, boats, and city bikes were easily recognizable, mirroring real-world transportation.
Initially, the client requested only a single 3D illustration, but we recognized the potential to develop a larger system that could be expanded into a complete world for Kolumbus services. The result was a flexible illustration system that could be used in print, presentations, films, and web solutions. The system consists of standalone 3D modules categorized into various groups, including vehicles, people, new technology, services, and environments. These can be combined and scaled as needed to convey different aspects of their services.  The environments are based on Kolumbus's main focus areas: City, Industry, Land, and Coast. The expression emphasizes Kolumbus's brand colors to ensure strong brand recognition.

Result
The client was very happy with the illustration system and wanted to use the modules to tell a story in an explainer film, aimed at inspiring people to leave their cars and choose more environmentally friendly travel options. The modules allowed us to expand entire urban environments and add more warmth to the expression by including people and animals. They enabled us to focus on specific vehicles or showcase the entire range of services provided by Kolumbus. The film met the client's communication needs, with Kolumbus as the clear sender.

We have included a case film that explains how we developed the illustration system and an explainer that uses the illustration system to tell a story of how Kolumbus works to create a greener future for the citizens of Rogaland, a county in Norway.
