IPA DAY '24

The Curonian Spit is a unique natural and cultural site on the Baltic Sea. For centuries, small fishing villages thrived there and developed a distinctive system of identification. Each village had its own sign composed of geometric shapes and distinct colours, which appeared on village coats of arms and on wind vanes. The wind vanes were attached to fishing boats, clearly indicating the boat’s home village.

Today, most of these fishing villages have disappeared or transformed into seaside resorts, yet the centuries-old wind vane tradition remains alive and well. Red Brick Brewery decided to honour this local heritage by releasing a series of limited-edition IPA beers.

Each label pays tribute to a particular seaside resort, featuring a modern interpretation of the original geometric designs. Witty and humorous phrases (though untranslatable into English due to local linguistic nuances) further highlight the character of each village. Bold typography, rich textures, and distinctive colour-coding complete the story, preserving this centuries-old tradition in a contemporary way.
