18 Years with Büro — Book

Eighteen years in the making, this is our studio’s (2006—2024) journey through design craft captured in a special Büro18 triple anniversary edition: a site, a book, and a 12” vinyl. This is a story of grit, curiosity, and creativity, told through the key moments, milestones, and voices that shaped Büro’s DNA.

This self-promotional studio book is personal, unfiltered and deliberately raw. From the FKN title to the MF testimonies, materials and finishes—forgive the words, they mean well. The binding is exposed, showing its guts instead of hiding the craft. The book cover and editorial design mirror and complement the 18.burocratik.com timeline (2006—2024) website. From the wrapped spiral website intro echoed on the cover, to the cut photographs that force you to turn the page to see the rest of the timeline. Horizontal scroll on screen, page flip on paper to see the rest of the photo. The book index is screen printed on the side of the pages, the website has a menu for easy access to the timeline both always visible.

Intentionally small in format, tactile and intimate. Set in our custom Gräphik typeface, with added emojis and alternate glyphs. The cover carries our aliased spiral, finished with transparent holographic foil over fluted embossing. Crafted by our longtime partners at Dot Studio using the Gmund Bauhaus black and white paper range. Why this paper? Because it embodies the same principle. Pure materiality, real quality and a modern, straightforward, simple design, in sync with the website’s black and white palette. The foiling stands as a deliberate counterpoint to the rest of the book’s specifications. A craft jewel that reflects the level of design we deliver.

Aimed initially for 666 pages (the most metal thing). Ended at 528. From the dark ages of the internet to early wins and major awards. Our manifesto, our culture and the voices of those who lived it. Friends, clients and every Büro since day one.

18 FKN YEARS WITH BÜRO is the visceral story of a small design studio from Portugal that stayed true to its craft core. Fearless, restless and, in its own way, mighty-ish. A small digital design studio from Europe that, against all odds, earned its place.
