During Milan Design Week 2025, cc-tapis presented Ways of Seeing, a collective exhibition curated by Giga. The project investigates how technology can intersect with craftsmanship, revealing processes that often remain unnoticed in a visually saturated environment. The installation featured works by 11 designers and artists, each rug created using a distinct technique and paired with a seemingly blank monitor suspended alongside it. At the entrance, visitors were given a unique viewing device, a screen that bridges analogue and digital perception. Only by looking through this device could the images on the monitors be revealed, creating an interactive experience that encourages exploration and attention. The technical setup reflects a hands-on approach to rethinking conventional display technologies. Traditional LCD screens were deconstructed and modified to expose how digital images are formed and perceived. This process reframes the screen as a tangible, manipulable object, blurring the boundaries between display and material and encouraging a more engaged, physical relationship with digital content. Inspired by John Berger’s Ways of Seeing, the exhibition explores materiality in both physical and digital forms. It challenges conventional modes of perception, highlighting how objects, and screens, can convey meaning beyond their surface.
