cc tapis
Developed for the Milan-based company cc-tapis, this digital platform reimagines the intersection between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design. The project functions as both a high-precision commercial tool and an immersive narrative environment, reflecting the brand’s bespoke and forward-thinking approach to rug-making. The core concept explores the morphological connection between the fundamental units of weaving and computing: the knot and the glyph. Drawing inspiration from early digital culture—specifically Teletext, receipt typography, and ASCII art—the visual language translates tactile textile processes into a screen-based vernacular. This approach recontextualizes the aesthetics of early text-based internet and data transmission, where characters are “woven” together to create texture and image, bridging the gap between the physical rug and the digital file. Structurally, the architecture addresses the dual requirements of storytelling and utility, catering to both B2B and B2C audiences. A custom-built design system enables a seamless transition between these modes. Editorial content flows through immersive, image-rich environments in the “Explore” and “Collections” sections, using a custom Pagebuilder to shape narrative journeys. Conversely, transactional areas—such as the B2B Stocklist and the retail Shop—adopt a rigorous, functional aesthetic inspired by product labels and logistical diagrams. The interface balances these dimensions through the consistent use of monospaced typography, stark framing, and modular panels. This strict technical framework is punctuated by moments of digital playfulness, including hidden ASCII animations and interactive elements like a memory game. The result is a platform that operates simultaneously as a precise cataloging tool and an expressive cultural artifact, preserving the hand-crafted spirit of cc-tapis within a scalable digital architecture.
