Follow Me Behind the Mirror – Positions of the Wemhoener Collection

Follow Me Behind the Mirror translates the openness and complexity of the Wemhöner Collection into a book conceived as an autonomous spatial experience. Following the curatorial approach of Philipp Bollmann, the publication avoids linear order and fixed narratives. Instead, the works unfold through open, dialogical constellations that allow meaning to emerge through juxtaposition, rhythm, and visual tension.

The catalogue is structured as a continuous visual flow. Associative image pairings replace chronology and hierarchy, inviting readers to actively engage and form their own connections. Explanatory texts are deliberately minimized and reduced to short framing elements, shifting the focus toward perception rather than interpretation.

Design and craft play a central role in supporting this concept. The book was published in two language editions—German and English—clearly distinguished through color: the English edition features a pink cover, the German edition a yellow one. Both use strong pastel tones that establish identity while remaining open and non-prescriptive. Typography throughout the book is deliberately restrained and non-hierarchical. The selected typeface, Ostia Antica by Bureau Brut, provides clarity and character without dominating the image sequences or suggesting a specific historical context.

Materiality reinforces the reading experience. A linen-bound hardcover is paired with a dust jacket that unfolds into a large-format poster, introducing multiple layers of interaction. Glossy and matte surfaces create tactile and visual contrasts, while carefully chosen paper supports image depth and rhythm across more than 400 pages.

Rather than documenting the collection of Heiner Wemhöner, the book extends it—through structure, material, and sensory experience—becoming an open, layered space of mediation in its own right.
