Stereoscope is an LA–based specialty coffee roastery known for their precision and consistency. The new website marks the launch of its online shop, designed to translate the discipline of roasting into a focused digital experience. The platform functions both as a brand experience and a tool, supporting subscriptions, wholesale, and frequent product changes while using the e-commerce experience itself to tell the brand’s story. Every interaction is shaped by the same attention to detail that defines Stereoscope’s approach to coffee by removing friction from discovery and purchase, allowing the product and process to take center stage. The result is an experience that is purposeful, confident, and rooted in quality.
The existing platform no longer reflected the new identity, or the clarity of its now-iconic packaging. It was primarily a transactional tool, offering little room to communicate Stereoscope’s philosophy, products, or point of view. The task was to create an e-commerce experience that places the products at the center while serving the roastery’s daily operations. Built on Shopify, the challenge was to work within the platform’s structural and design constraints while elevating the experience beyond a standard template. The ambition was to create a website that feels considered, progressive, and true to Stereoscope’s philosophy, without compromising usability or performance.
Building on the success of the redesign, a key objective was to translate the packaging's physicality into the digital space. The iconic packaging was chosen as the focal point of the website and presented in 3D, allowing users to experience the materiality and details. This approach not only strengthens the brand experience but provides a tool for the team to introduce and manage new products with minimal friction.
To emphasize coffee as a living organism, we gave it its own voice with a first-person text written from the perspective of the Arabica plant. To balance a strong brand experience with operational needs, the platform integrates Shopify with Sanity allowing flexible and scalable content extending beyond a conventional e-commerce website, supporting both storytelling and daily workflows.
At the core is a custom-built 3D labeling tool that enables the team to apply different colors, text, and product information directly to the packaging. The tool replaces the need for repeated photoshoots. By combining function with storytelling the solution demonstrates how a technical system can unlock efficiency and expressive freedom, transforming the e-commerce platform into a living extension of Stereoscope’s practice.
